The Real Pound Problem

For those who wonder why I go apeshit at the waste of paper that is Amy Chavez's defecation of a column, here is an interesting piece on Ezra Pound and the Japan Times. Should they really have worked for the same paper?

Not sure about this post... What do you mean? I mean, its not very insightful or interesting, but I'm not sure what the standard is for Ezra Pound coverage in newspapers. Of course my loathing of Pound might be blinding me.

No. I just mean that the tradition at the Japan Times was to once feature guest columns by Ezra Pound and now feature guest columns by Amy Chavez. Even if you loath Pound, it seems that the most anyone could work up for Ms. Chavez's paltry work is pity or puzzlement.

Well, I've seen some pretty awful journalism, and growing up in a newspaper family am pretty appalled, but I see what you mean; her writing seems much closer to the level of the "Grover's Corner Shopper" than the New York Times.

attempting to silence the voices in my head.
