H-Town is slowly climbing out from under the muck and the downed power lines. It was pretty amazing and scary to have a hurricane fly right over my house, but luckily my fence was all that blew away, that and my power for six days. It is interesting who is getting power back first, the Galleria monster mall was apparently only without power for a few hours, while on the East side of Houston (the wrong side of the tracks of course) some are expected to be powerless until into October. But none are as bad off as the Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston which under water or covered in mud. They had a guy on the radio talking about how his entire town was gone (literally was no longer there), and this was not some rich joker who had bought a umpteen million dollar condo on the edge of the ocean, this was farmer was born and raised on the peninsula. Meanwhile back in the syrup city, rich snobs and rascals were getting into fights over gasoline because they needed to run their generators, and gas for their cars so they could wait in line. At Gas stations and grocery stores it was like a zombie movie or like Al-Queda had dropped a dirty bomb on all major cities and this was the end of days. But as life returns to normal and my neighbors look for their roofs and mailboxes, which mostly ended up in my yard, Houston was relatively lucky compared to our brothers and sisters just to the south. Here is an article about a possible land grab from the government. I have heard it’s just a crazy “9/11 was an inside job” style rumor to almost a done deal.
